excited to announce on bonfire that yesterday @bea brought to the world our daughter Aurora ❤️
I'm not just talking about images, but also about sound files, and any relevant file really.
PDFs? Why couldn't I convert the .tex file to .rtf and slap it in the file metadata?
(Is .rtf a binary format? Or Markdown, anyway.)
This is gonna sound silly, but in a best-effort attempt at making computers and the internet more accessible, I'd like to suggest making the alt text editor edit directly the image metadata ("notes" field), and then use the metadata as the alt field
What do y'all think? #a11y #accessibility

I don't think so? @BonfireBuilders
Hello? Is this thing on? Hello? Hey ho let’s go!
This video, made by historian Heather Cox Richardson a few hours after Cassidy Hutchinson's testimony on Tuesday before the House Select Committee investigating January 6, is worth viewing (at least by concerned Americans) in its entirety.
If I have grabbed the link below correctly, however, the video should start playing a little after the 36-minute point. At this point, having summarized and interpreted Hutchinson's testimony, and having added a few comments on the SCOTUS Dobbs decision, and then offering some historical clarification on how democracies die, she adds comments about some of the things she thinks American citizens will have to do to preserve democracy.
Since her thinking begins to get at the problems I have tried to address with my #seizethemeansofcommunity hashtag I thought I'd provide a link that started you at that point.
Some notes:
So here we are. Kicking the tyres. Trying what’s possible. Bonfire is a nice name and gives a promise for future ambitions. Like it.

thanks @tychi @BonfireBuilders
yes it was already flagged (but it's good to know anyway to better prioritize it)

Thank @ivan! 😊
I think the weird font issue I was getting here is that it was using the dyslexia font on desktop but when I tried to set it to other fonts it didn't change it.
Great font if you need it but it has the opposite effect on me I find it extremely hard to read
But there's a difference between "this is just the font being used" and "there are other fonts it's just weirdly not switching" so that's good

I have a suggestion for Bonfire:

i really like what you're going for here, from the conceptual level to the implementation so far - haven't looked too deep, but the tech stack seems good, especially the focus on serverside rendering.
i think modularity is useful in many applications, but specifically in the fediverse, i believe it to be extremely important. i'm not an activitypub user, but in my slight testing in the past, i've encountered incompatibilities between different applications. i'm hoping that bonfire with its modular approach can give instance owners or even users the tools to bridge the gaps in the protocol and the feature sets of different applications.
i'm also quite interested in zappa, and while i think some of the goals are quite a ways off (personal AI?), i believe the output can be quite useful to community managers, even outside of the fediverse community.
hope you enjoyed reading this post as much as i enjoyed writing it. sorry for the lack of capitalization, i'm too lazy to reach for the shift key

Heyoooo
been surfing the fediverse for a couple years now across a few instances. checking out this new tech :)
how's everyone doing today?
Hey @BonfireBuilders - would it be possible to get an edit button/option for posts? I just made my #firstpost, and realized I needed to add something. #bonfire_feedback
hello @stadjodes, several participants already asked for this, we have noted down on our roadmap here: changemap.co/bonfire/bonfire... 👍
You should be able to add a sort-of title to a post by clicking the CW button. You can also give a name to an entire thread by clicking the top-right button when viewing a thread. And you should be good to go for Vietnamese on Transifex, thanks 😊
Wow. This is awesome. I am in love with this project now. Thank you
