4chan in a nutshell. (4chan is bad but Twitter is probably even worse and activists still use it; it’s an awful tool, but unfortunately it’s relevant if you’re trying to get the attention of a specific population on a topic.)

Je veux dire par là que les concepts sous-jacents sont complexes ; Office peut dissimuler cette complexité en tartinant une interface par-dessus, incitant sans doute ses utilisateurs à broder sur des concepts vaguement maîtrisés (au lieu d’assumer ce manque de maîtrise). Mais une grande partie (la majeure partie ?) de nos formations se concentre sur son interface plutôt que sur ces concepts. C’est dégoûtant.

Absolument, et le rôle des communs (que je suis original hohoho, je me renouvelle de semaine en semaine /s) est de baisser ces coûts ! Et l’un de ces coûts, ça me désole, est le manque de traduction de la documentation ; l’État français pourrait investir quelques centaines de milliers d’euros dans cette traduction, ne serait-ce que pour un secteur français du numérique en forte demande de développeurs et d’administrateurs systèmes !

Quant à l’usage d’outils comme vim ou LaTeX, honnêtement, ce n’est pas plus compliqué que MS Office Word. Il est certainement compliqué de réaliser sous LaTeX des tâches simples sous Word, mais ce sont deux outils différents, complexes, l’un étant plus adapté à la mise en page et au graphisme, l’autre à la prise en charge du formattage de documents complexes, avec un sommaire, un formattage spécifique pour l’avant-propos, la génération d’une bibliographie et d’un index, etc. Honnêtement, que Microsoft paie les universités européennes pour nous former à la suite Office montre bien que ces outils, ne serait-ce que concernant la génération d’un graphique à partir d’un tableau, n’est pas une opération moins complexe qu’avec R et LaTeX…

Using boundaries for multi-language support? Posting memes in English, opinions in French, etc., so people get to choose which language(s) they prefer to read, instead of setting your language(s) in stone, i.e. in your profile.

On mutual aid, I wasn’t thinking about anything else than crowdfunding; thank you both for your work on the image metadata feature request.

I’m not aware of an official Bonfire app, do you mean the web portal? IME it’s Android suspending my browser, I should just disable "battery optimizations" but my phone lacks hardware resources for the authorized apps already. When Android suspends my browser, my tabs need to be reloaded so I lose any text I might have entered without saving it as a draft, so for example I can’t start a reply, screw an Ikea case (sorry, didn’t buy it), and then get back to my reply draft.

All I’m trying to say is that the UX could be improved by storing drafts locally, similarly to Pinafore, i.e. I’ve just refreshed my tab and on Pinafore the "write something…" box should be already set to reply to this message with the text pre-entered. I have no idea if it’s easy to do or if it should be a priority for you; Bonfire being modular, I could just wait until a developer does this tweak (I hope/guess), but I feel like I should suggest you making it the default, upstream behaviour.

I have a suggestion for Bonfire:

The Android UX could be improved. I’m not frustrated at all, but Android suspends my browser after about 15 minutes, so when this happens I lose every draft I’ve started.

Of course I use my clipboard to avoid this. FYI, Pinafore saves drafts in internal storage so even if my phone/computer rebooted, it would retrieve them locally. I don’t know if it would be easy to tweak with the Bonfire codebase, I tend to guess it would, but I have zero experience in development.

Kinda unrelated and I don't want to see Twitter implement crowdfunding, but maybe we could define:

• features that Facebook, or Twitter, won't be able to implement, making their users migrate here,
• features that Facebook, or Twitter, will be forced to adopt, and
• features that improve our life experience (e.g. enabling mutual aid).

Sorry for the flood again, but I'd like to add, obviously, that making the best ActivityPub server and getting some traction in mainstream media will force Twitter to make its user experience more livable.

There are, for example, people who just need to feel listened to without advice or judgment, and of course the local TL does a lot of good to them. I have no advice to give to Bonfire contributors, but I'll think a bit about what else we could do for them.

I don't feel Bonfire as a Twitter clone but rather as something much more ambitious, and I know I've implied otherwise and I'm sorry. Honestly, I feel mad about something and this is the first time using social media doesn't only avoid fueling this, but also calms me so much.

What can I say? It's fair to assume that Twitter has a team dedicated to checking the Mastodon changelog to accomodate their users and avoid migrations, and I think we should try to bring features that are adversarial to their fascist business model (e.g. developing addictions and enabling aggressions to make their users feel endangered and force them to check their notifications periodically). I'd happily make a few suggestions to make more Twitter users migrate here. This isn't everything the :verified: LGBTQIA+ emojos are about, they're about bringing validation to people who were modelised so they wouldn't find it on Twitter of course, but it's part of it.

So of course I'm autistic and recovering from a web burnout so I'm trying to express myself as plainly and literally as possible, but I'm not complaining, and I'm very excited about boundaries basically following a Unix permissions model, this is something I've advocated for a few months ago. I'm just tired atm.

Indeed, if I create a web page, even if it's a microblog or plain WordPress blog post, I should still be able to control who can modify the page (by replying) or who can view it. This is infosec 101, whether the file is public or not.

It must be especially hard to implement and I believe Mayel and Ivan are geniuses for tackling this challenge, and I'm so glad and grateful they're doing it. I'm also very proud to contribute to this beta, and I hopee it will pacify the Fediverse (a bit).

Sorry for the flood, I’d like to add that as you can guess with the descriptions of the two images, the image based on the 1979 pride flag was meant to appear first (i.e. at the left, following the latin reading direction).

I don’t know if custom emojos are implemented yet, but this seems required to add them to your username, and I don’t want to assert my priorities or needs upon someone else, but these two examples I’ve made show this is a feature a lot of people rely on and will expect. I could as well add the :autistic: emojo (the rainbow infinity loop).

(Is .rtf a binary format? Or Markdown, anyway.)

I'm not just talking about images, but also about sound files, and any relevant file really.

PDFs? Why couldn't I convert the .tex file to .rtf and slap it in the file metadata?

This is gonna sound silly, but in a best-effort attempt at making computers and the internet more accessible, I'd like to suggest making the alt text editor edit directly the image metadata ("notes" field), and then use the metadata as the alt field
