Welcome @Hyuinkel 🤯
after I push the "post" button, instead of showing me the result of my labor, bonfire shows a toast message with a link that would lead me there.
My sense is that posting something should show me what I sent out into the world immediately, as others will see it.
Definitely, yes. Please put us back into the feed after we post.
@barefoot_doc uhm It seems to me that you are asking for the opposite of what @Dragan_Espenschied suggested? or am I misunderstanding?
I can't get the number below 3.
BTW - it seems not possible to quote only part of a message being replied to. Quite often I don't need to re-display the entire post. This seems unneccessarily long-winded, and hogging of screen real estate.
I'd be happier with a default where the original message is not reproduced in full. Where only selected elements are quoted, according to what is cut-&-pasted, and prefaced by > in markdown.
I've captured this on ChangeMap but it won't show up until moderated: https://changemap.co/bonfire/bonfire/
accepted! https://changemap.co/bonfire/bonfire/
As it seems neither shows up in my Masto timeline?
Hello Ivan, thank you for the Welcome! Here's my #bonfilre_feedback
Nice:
- It is great to have formatting options here! Very easy to use.
- The search is great! (Most masto instances I use have search disabled)
- It is good that content warnings are carried over into quotes and replies.
To improve:
- The default "quoting" option when replying to a post seems excessive. It is always possible to follow a link to the quoted post. Also it is possible to manually quote. (Maybe this could be done by default when copying/pasting text from the post you're replying to.
- It is nice to be able to switch in between identities, but I wasn't clear on signup what input field would become what piece of data. My expectation was that my "real name" would just be used for display, but it became my "user name" and is now part of the URL. Maybe show a preview of profile and URL while editing the signup information.
- Search is cool, as mentioned above, I think many masto instances have it disabled because of privacy concerns. It would be interesting to have users or identities having the option to opt out of being indexed by the local search.
- Images + CWs and images + quotes don't seem to work.
That's all for now, really enjoying the new effort.
on "quoting" we can add a configuration to both show or hide by default the quoted comment on feeds, and in case it's hidden we can just add a link to the original thread at the end of the post (as the "show thread" button on masto) 👍
Hi, just testin' here! Looks great!
😘

I have a suggestion for Bonfire:
@BonfireBuilders #bonfire_feedback
- the limitation of names to minimum 3 chars doesn’t have any technical basis. I like going by s0. Why is my profile name required to be 3 characters long?
- the post-email confirmation account creation form profile info field gets cleared if there was an error in other fields, which may have had long text typed in it.
- on iPad safari landscape view and similar viewports, the share feedback button on the bottom of the right column is sometimes scrolled offscreen and inaccessible. Otherwise sometimes instead the search bar at the top is inaccessible.
- there’s no clear indication of how and when the automatic formatting is applied in the post view — for example turning this into a numbered list without asking first, changing the indentation, etc… what if I didn’t want that?
- The post field is very long by default on the /write page, even with quite short content actually in the field. It leaves a lot of white space between the post and the actual post button.
- the “upload an image” description that appears over the attachment button is cut off by the edge of the middle column and illegible.
- Pasting an image into the rich text field results in a big empty rectangle but the image doesn’t seem to render here.
- there doesn’t seem to be a way to add image descriptions?
1/ fair enough
2/ good point!
3/ we didn't tested enough bonfire on mobile yet unfortunately, several users are experiencing these kind of issues, noted here: https://github.com/bonfire-networks/bonfire-app/issues/384
4/ another good point!
5/ and this sounds reasonable again 😆
6/ yeah this is an annoying known issue with the current template, still looking for the right fix
7/ this is actually new to me!
8/ you should see the "add a description" field after uploading the image (top-left corner)
Thanks a lot for reporting these!
our bad, the widget is hidden on mobile, we should likely add the "share feedback" link on the user navigation panel 👍
Yes, it is. I have to scroll down to see it.
I'm on mobile, Firefox on android. Had an issue signing up that the confirm button was cut off. Ah, also now as I try to send this post... I have to click somewhere else to get the keyboard out of the way, can't scroll further down.
I just noticed the great variety of UI themes in the settings!
The included themes are nice, but having an option to inject custom CSS would probably be a nice addition too
wondering if you were referring to this or just a plain textarea to inject any kind of css into the platform ?
and maybe enabling horizontal scroll? maybe combined with a way to "full screen" the thread like we can do for compose?
great idea 😊 I'm already very impressed with how deeply they can be nested so far
me too! actually I wasnt brave enough to try to go so far 😅 😜
